The Art of Plastic Surgery

Doctor Francis Palmer holds an aesthetic view of plastic surgery. “It is probably one of the last remaining examples of hand-made craftsmanship,” he relates.  Dr. Palmer believes in artistic craftsmanship, individualized treatment, and much more. “I believe that a truly gifted plastic surgeon must have the eyes of an artist, the hands of an angel, and the heart of a lion", Dr. Palmer asserts. “This enables one to decide what will make the patient more attractive while gently and deftly shifting tissues with the utmost courage and skill, as the surgeon quite literally holds the outward identity of his/her patient in his/her hands…. A tremendous responsibility that must not be taken lightly.”

Graduating with honors, Dr. Palmer then entered the University of California Irvine School of Medicine where he received his M.D. degree. He then served a five-year residency in Head and Neck Surgery at USC-LA County Medical Center (the largest medical teaching institution in the world). During his tenure major emphasis was placed on facial plastic surgery. Following board certification, Dr. Palmer completed a one-year fellowship with the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and was board certified with the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He later completed a one-year fellowship in Cosmetic Surgery of the Face and Body with the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and is board eligible with the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. Dr. Palmer has been Co-Director of Facial Plastic Surgery for the Head and Neck Surgery Department at the University of Southern California School of Medicine since 1991, and was recently named "One Of The World’s Best" Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons by the international media.

Practice and Perfection

Although born and raised in Pennsylvania, Palmer makes his home and directs his practice in California. His Beverly Hills based Beverly Hills International Center for Aesthetic Surgery, describes by title alone, Dr. Palmer’s approach to his craft. “We strive to offer the most up-to-date plastic surgery procedures in a state-of-the art surgical facility,” Dr. Palmer explains. “Ours is a fully accredited, licensed outpatient surgery center where through a combination of surgical mastery, artistic vision, and sound aesthetic judgment I strive to meet my patients’ expectations.”

Dr. Palmer defines plastic surgery as the art of aesthetically enhancing the human physical form. When properly performed, according to Dr. Palmer, it can dramatically improve one’s appearance in restoring the natural beauty of youth. “Its results should be natural, attractive and enhancing,” he asserts.

Dr. Palmer hopes that potential patients will know what they want to achieve. If they aren’t sure of their needs, he tries to assist. “A surgeon who is truly gifted will be able to sit down with a patient and tell them what will make them look more attractive and what won't. That’s what I try to relay to each patient,” he explains.

Preventive Care

Dr. Palmer doesn’t ignore his responsibility to educate his patients. Preventive maintenance is his key advice. “If you buy a new car, you learn to take care of it, giving it regular maintenance so that it will deliver top performance over a long term. The same is true of our bodies and our skin in particular. You don’t ignore symptoms and wait until parts start falling off your car, neither should you ignore poor skin, aging or aesthetic conditions and wait until they need serious treatment.”

Dr. Palmer recommends typical good maintenance techniques, including sun exposure avoidance, a healthy diet, weight control, ample consumption of liquids, and exercise. He also explains that beauty maintenance is important and that everyone needs to commit to it. “Your degree of maintenance will depend on your social situation and how you feel. Facials and non-invasive skin treatments may help rejuvenate your skin without surgery.” “Most important to remember is that you don't have to let everything fall apart before you seek help or a consultation,” Dr. Palmer cautions.

Aesthetic Fulfillment

"Plastic surgery is true artistry", says Dr. Palmer, who is authoring an upcoming book revealing his “Palmer Beauty Principles” revolutionary new concepts of beauty and aesthetics in plastic surgery. "Plastic surgery, in order to be inspired work, must incorporate both the art and science of beauty. The surgeon must have an aesthetic eye.” This philosophy has led to the development of two of Dr. Palmer’s trademarked techniques that are helping shape the future of plastic surgery: the "Facial Contour®" Facelift and the "Ever Full®" Lip Enhancement. Males and females both become more masculine appearing as they age. Dr. Palmer’s procedures artistically bring out facial features, thereby giving the face a more contoured youthful anatomy. This information and much more is presented on Dr. Palmer’s web site at http://www.beverlyhills-plasticsurgery.com.

“There is a great reward I find in practicing my craft,” Dr. Palmer says. “Seeing the results through the eyes of the patient or the patient’s loved ones can be very moving. I recall a difficult surgery to reduce the large nose of a very attractive teenage girl. When the cast came off her family and friends who were present began to weep. Their weeping was for joy as one of them said, ‘Oh my God, honey, now you are pretty again.’ Those simple words were very powerful and they brought home to me how vital, challenging, and fulfilling my work can be.”

Dr. Palmer remains at the cutting-edge of emerging technology, in the field of Anti-Aging, Life-Extension and Plastic Surgery.  “The next major technological revolution will be in the areas of longevity and non-invasive beauty enhancement.  People could live well beyond 150 years old and I’m certain that they’ll want to look young and beautiful as well.  The latest non-surgical procedures include Suspension Lifts, IPL (pulsed light), (Thermage) Radio Frequency, Ultrasound Infusion, Botox and various Collagen-Stimulating Cosmeceuticals.”  In addition to a wide range of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Procedures, Dr. Palmer offers these revolutionary skin-rejuvenating procedures, and has recently developed his own line of cosmeceutical skin care products.

Francis R Beverly Hills ® uses the finest of ingredients to firm, tighten, lighten and rejuvenate the skin all over the body.  “These remarkable creams, use advanced ingredients, that allow Collagen Re-formation in the skin, Anti-Oxidation of Environmental Free-Radicals, while firming and tightening the skin.”  Says Dr. Palmer.
