Rose,

Yes, a recent graduate no matter how talented does not have a fraction of the experience as a plastic and cosmetic surgeon who has been in practice for many years. No, the nose is packed with telfa (what I use with septoplasty) and or strip gauge packing overnight that will block all nasal breathing. You would have to breathe out of your mouth until the packing was removed. After that, the nasal airway maybe swollen that further limits nasal breathing for the first several weeks.

Miy,

It's not just a matter of removing the L-shaped nasal implant but rather to repair the damage, to the nasal tip cartilages, that the L-section causes. The L-section is placed between, the tip cartilages causing them to separate and weaken.
If, the dorsal height is appropriate, for your nose, an open Tip plasty is the best method to remove and trim the nasal implant, leaving the straight segment undisturbed along the nasal bridge...this also allows direct access to the nasal tip cartilages to sew them back into position and to add an ear cartilage graft to the nasal tip for added support and shape if required. This will decrease the swelling and recovery time as well. Unadvised to fly for 1 week after the Revision Rhinoplasty.

Hi Dr Palmer

I have undergone closed L-shaped silicone rhinoplasty 4 weeks ago and I am planning to have it removed, due to the tip having a white mark (where the implant ends).

can you advise the recovery downtime for removal? I reckon there will be stitches to be removed as well and how long will nose usually take to deswell? Would it be as bad as the actual insertion? I need to plan for a work-free week?

I'll also need your advice on how to better take care of healing scar tissue after removal.

Thank you in advance, I am desperate for professional advice.

I'm planning deviated septum surgery with possible rhinoplasty. The doctor is a recent graduate from John Hopkins. My first fear is, this is a new doctor. Second, will I be able to breathe from my nose after surgery? (even a little?) I've had restricted breathing for so long that I'm more afraid of breathing from my mouth "only". I've actually covered my nose to experience this feeling & I almost had a panic attack. Thank you for your help & advice.

Gina,

The nasal bridge bump, if secondary to swelling, should continue to decrease over the next couple of months...after that it's most likely due to bone or cartilage and will not change. The nasal tip can be numb and stiff or up to 6 months after a Rhinoplasty depending on what was done, during the Rhinoplasty, to the nasal tip.

Meli,

It takes between 4-6 months to see the final result after a Primary, Closed Rhinoplasty...longer with an Open or Revision Rhinoplasty. Give yourself a few months but do bring this up with the plastic and cosmetic surgeon that did your Rhinoplasty.

Deniz,

Of course your nose will feel normal but it does takes 4-9 months for a nose to get to that point after a Rhinoplasty and up to 2 years after a revision Rhinoplasty. You will need to ask the plastic and cosmetic surgeon that did your Rhinoplasty his/her post Rhinoplasty instructions. I don't use nasal packing or tampons after a Rhinoplasty.
