Jessie,

I'm not certain because only that plastic and cosmetic surgeon knows what was done to your nose during your Rhinoplasty. If the nasal bony hump was removed it should be gone....but you'll have to ask that PS for clarification. If the hump is still there at 6 months, you may consider a revision Rhinoplasty to remove the bony hump which often requires breaking the bones and not simply rasping down the bone.

Angela,

The swelling is a natural consequence of placing incisions inside the nose within that tissue. No matter if your plastic and cosmetic surgeon used an open or closed technique, they all use incisions inside the nose. This tissue swells from the surgical trauma.

Swollen,

I'd have to examine the inside of your nose to comment on this.

Swollen,

Revision Rhinoplasty typically is not performed any sooner than 6 months after the previous Rhinoplasty. I have mentioned this in this blog previously in my Rhinoplasty 101 series: Spreader grafts and other grafts designed to open the internal nasal valve or the tip ala (outer portions) often referred to as "collapsed nostrils" by nature lead to an increase in the size of the nose and tip. In my opinion, patients do not want that added size and therefore I do not use those types of techniques.

It's curious that you can't find an experienced Rhinoplasty surgeon to address your issues. You should consult with additional plastic and cosmetic Rhinoplasty surgeons if you are still concerned. You can e-mail our office photos at drfpalmer1@aol.com and schedule a phone or IChat consult.

Hi Dr. Palmer,

I had an open rhinoplasty 4 months ago. I still have the same prominent hump even though my PS says he had removed it. It feels like bone, and has not reduced in size since the cast came off 4 months ago. I am just curious if this something typically experienced by patients, and if it is common for the hump to shrink significantly even after 4 months.

Thank you for your input,
Jessie

Dear Dr. Palmer,

I also meant to add that I only have 5% breathing from my left side and about 15% from my right side. I'm basically suffocating. Nothing seems to help.

Hi Dr. Palmer

I had open rhinoplasty about 6 weeks ago. I had my bridged narrowed and an implant put in. I wanted to know if is normal to experience nasal congestion around this time. Also I wanted to know why does nasal congestion occur when healing from rhinoplasty. Thank you

I also wanted to ask. Should surgery be performed as soon as possible to remove the cartilage graft or is it better to wait for more swelling to subside and use a cortisone product to control swelling.

I had revision rhinoplasty over 5 months ago to correct collapsing nostrils, open airways, and reduce and lift the tip. My nose is much larger than before surgery. I have a pieceof cartilage graft blockingmy airways and have almost no ability to breathe. I have been unable to find a surgeon to correct these problems.
Do you have any suggestions.

Terry,

I have no way of knowing. You'll have to ask the plastic and cosmetic surgeon that did the surgery.
