Beverly Hills Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery “Tip of the Day” from Dr. Francis R Palmer, III Beverly Hills Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon.

Cheek, Cheeks and more Cheeks.

When you’re ready to look more attractive, where should you start?  Think of three important words.  Cheeks, Cheeks and yes, you guessed it Cheeks.  My Palmer Beauty Principles and my What’s Your Number concepts state that the shape and size of your cheeks have the power to tell the world you are male, female, young, old, attractive or less so.  The Cheeks account for a whopping 75% of what makes your face attractive.  Do I have your attention yet?

So when patients come in and see me for consultation, I try to show them that the Cheeks may need improvement.  If you still need convincing, look at a picture of Halle Berry who’s number is a 99 out of a perfect 100 or Jessica Alba who’s number is a perfect 100…both of these beautiful women have perfectly shaped cheeks.

Ok, so now you’re a believer.  So, how do you get those beautiful Cheeks athat are so important to making you attractive?

1. Cheek Implants for Cheek Augmentation…for people with relatively flat Cheeks.  Relatively simple procedure where soft silicone implants are placed on top of your existing Cheek Bone through a small incision placed inside your mouth.  Recovery about 1 week.  Lasts forever.

2. Soft tissue fillers.  I like Radiesse for this.  The material lats 1-3 years and can be placed as a series of injections which can be done as an office visit.  Typically gives 50-70% of the augmentation that Cheek Implants would accomplish.  Can be re-done anytime for more augmentation but DOES REQUIRE good aesthetic sense as you are literally molding the new shape of the cheeks.  You’ll look very odd if this is put in the wrong place or makes your Cheeks the wrong shape.  I do not like Fat…it’s not live tissue…it’s not reliable…it’s not a good choice in my opinion.

3. Learn makeup tips that can b eused to give the illusion of fuller, more defined cheeks.  Obviously men are out of luck with this one.

Did a Celebrity Lift with Geometric Neck Lift on a major celebrity this morning.  So much extra skin that I spent 10 minutes on one side of an incision making sure the closure looked perfect….I thought to myself “That’s my career in a nutshell….it’s all in the details.  The details to get the aesthetics right for each individual (what’s going to make them more attractive), formulate a plan using various Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Procedures and treatments and then meticulously carry out those Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Procedures and/or treatments…sometimes down to a fraction of a millimeter of skin removal to make the incision perfect.”

I have always said that a gifted Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon must have the following characteristics:

1. The eyes of an artist… you must be able to regocnize and re-create beauty…it’s what we do.

2. The hands of an angel…you must be able to gently and deftly handle tissues of the human body.

3. The heart of a lion…you must have the courage to do what needs to be done no matter the pressure…no matter what.

I never said the job of a Beverly Hills Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon was easy…just exciting.

It’s always gratifying to receive accolades from colleagues in your field.  here’s an e-mail sent to me from a Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon in Europe that I thought I’d share with you.  It highlights what I’ve said on my blog over and over.  The US in general and Beverly Hills particularly have the highest trained Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeons in the world…bar none.

 Dear Dr.Palmer,

I found a courage to write you this short email, after I found out on web that you belong to the top ten plastic aesthetic surgeons and I would love to have really professional advice for my issue.

I am a plastic surgeon, in present opening my own private practice in Austria. Originally I come from Slovakia, but I did my training abroad.  I would like to ask you for a kindness. I would like to ask you for your oppinion(as you are very experienced professional) what are the best books as for a facial plastic surgery, it means, for facelift, browlift-foreheadlift, rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty(also as for Asiats), facial implants(included chin surgery), etc.  plus also as for any books for body procedures(breasts, lipo, thigh-buttock lift, etc), and finally as for chemical peeling, botox, mesotherapy or other typical procedures for aging skin.

Please, it is very important to me, as my colleagues say completely different books and to decide about which ones, as there are very expensive, I do not want to buy ones which are not worth it. As I appreciate your oppinion, I would be more than pleased by your professional advice.  I know you are very busy, but please, I will be very grateful if you find any time for me to reply.  I wish you the very best at work and also in your private life.  Once again, thank you very much.

A very nice note.  I told this Plastic Surgeon that training and experience makes a Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon…not the books he/she reads.  Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon is learned and honed, as a skill, by doing….it’s not a spectator sport…not something that can be learned by reading alone.  You have to do Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery procedures to learn them…and do them over and over and over many, many times.

Botox Injections to reduce unwnted lines and wrinkles.

I have used Botox Injections to reduce lines and wrinkles for over 15 years and have even taught courses on how to use Botox to doctors and nurses.

We get a couple of calls each months from doctors in the area that have their nurses or colleagues use Botox on them, because they think it’s easy to do Botox Injections.  Well they are partially correct..it is very easy, safe and effective if you’ve been trained in the cosmetic use of Botox and have a thorough knowledge of the nerves and muscles of the face and neck.  If you don’t, you can wind up weakening muscles that you need to move certain parts of your face…and then they look odd and call us to bail them out.

1. Good News is Botox Injections are temporary lasting between 4-6 months, so if you have a bad outcome…just wait and the effects will go away.

2. Bad news is you can look odd, even down right scary if your eyebrows are dropped in the center and raised at the edges or your lower eyelids are pulled down from weak eyelid muscles.

Take home message…get Botox Injections from someone experienced, don’t be taken in by a cheap price and don’t have Botox Injected near a part of your face that requires continued muscle tone….like the lower eyelids.  I make an exception around the mouith where I use Botox to eliminate the lines around the lips but I use very small amounts strategically placed.

What should your Rhinoplasty do for you?

A Rhinoplasty has certain goals and it’d be nice for you to have those goals clear in your mind before you undergo your Rhinoplasty or revision Rhinoplasty.  As I see it the goals of a modern-day Rhinoplasty are the following:

1. Refinement of the nose in a soft, natural manner.

2. Limited swelling, bruising and healing time.

3. Aesthetically correct…which means that the nose, after surgery, still fits the face and blends right in to the surrounding facial features.

4. Does NOT have an over-done or operated on appearance.

5. uses Rhinoplasty techniques that have long term proven success.  This means that using certain types of man-made substances for graft, bone or septal cartilage are not used as these may create problems long term.  For instance, irradiated cartilage has almost 100% absorption (all gone) after 15 years….and silicone nasal struts have ~ 100% erosion through the nasal tip skin within 15 years.  For long tern success, these types of materials should be avoided…in my opinion.

6. Should be a Closed Rhinoplasty or an Open Rhinoplasty as the particular circumstances of the Rhinoplasty and the aesthetic goals dictate.  Avoid Rhinoplasty Surgeons who claim they do all noses one way or the other…each of these Rhinoplasty techniques, in my opinion, are good techniques that may be required in a given set of circumstances.

7. Rhinoplasty is for nasal refinement….do not seek perfection.  An old Surgery addage says “the enemy of good is better” which means that once you get something that’s pretty good trying to get that extra little bit of improvement typically doesn’t work and you wind up with a mess.

8. Know when to say when.  In other words, have a realistic idea of the kind of improvement that’s possible with Rhinoplasty and your nose.  Typically, in the very best, skilled and highly experienced Rhinoplasty Surgeon’s hands, a Rhinoplasty can make your nose go up 2 numbers when judged on a scale form 1 to 10, 10 being perfect.  So, if you have a 5…you can get a 7…but you’re not realistically going to get a 9 or a 10.  Look elsewhere, on the face, to further improve your appearance.

9. You don’t need a perfect nose….an 8 out of ten is fine.

The Latest Trends In Palstic and Cosmetic Surgery here in beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California and the rest of the United States.

How Much money is spent each year on Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Procedures and Non-Invasive Treatments Loke Botox Injections, Restylane Injections, Radiesse Injections, Chemical peels and Microdermabrasion?

Over 12 Billion Dollars in the US alone!

Half of all the procedures being performed are non-invasive…which is the fastest growing trend in the area of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery.

Compare these figures with more 30 billion dollars per year Americans spend on weight loss products and more than 15 billion dolars they spend on dietary supplements and you can see that less money is spent, in this country, on improving their appearance than is spent on diets and nutritional supplements.

What are the Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Procedures or Treatments that are the most popular…and which are becoming less popular?

 Liposuction is becoming less popular.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) is becoming less popular.

Full face Lifts and Neck Lifts are less popular.

More popular are the less invasive, less recovery time type procedures like our “Celebrity Lift”.

 http://www.drfpalmer.com/PalmerCelebrityLift.html

Soft Tissue Fillers like Radiesse and Restylane.

 Botox Injections.

Minimally invasive face Lifts and neck Lifts like our “Celebrity Lift”

 Rhinoplasty

Breast Augmentation, especially now that Silicone Implants are available basically without restrictions.

 Tummy Tucks (Abdominoplasty)

 Facial Sculpting using Radiesse Injections.

Beverly Hills Rhioplasty and Revision Rhinoplasty by Dr. Francis R Palmer, III Beverly Hills Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon.

Hundreds of thousands of Rhinoplasty and Revision Rhinoplasties are performed in the US alone each and every year…a fair amount of them right here in California, Los Angeles, Hollywood and of course Beverly Hills making it one of the most common Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery procedures performed.  For being so popular it amazes me that this Plastic Surgery procedure is so misunderstood.

I have been performing Rhinoplasty for over 20 years and I have a great deal of experience doing this Plastic SurgeryProcedure.  I understand the beauty aesthetics necessary to evaluate what contribution the nose has to any given person’s face.  I also have the experience of knowing what should be done to alter the nose with a Rhinoplasty or a Revision Rhinoplasty…but how common is this knowledge.  If you read through the comment section of this blog particularly regarding Rhinoplasty and revision Rhinoplasty, one has to wonder.

If you are considering making yourself more attractive, please review my Palmer Beauty Principles tm

http://www.drfpalmer.com/palmer-beauty-principles.html

and also my views on What’s Your Number.  http://www.whatsyournumber.net

as well as my opinions about Rhinoplasty

http://www.drfpalmer.com/Rhinoplasty.html

If you think a Rhinoplasty is what you’re interested in having…do research and find the most experienced Rhinoplasty Surgeon you can afford.  You will pay for for experience but it is cheaper than having to pay for a 2nd or 3rd Revision Rhinoplasty.  If there aren’t any experienced Rhinoplasty surgeons in your area…fly to Beverly Hills…I’ll be happy to consult with you.  You may have to wait for my availability but hey, this is your nose and you’ll have it for the rest of your life so why be in a hurry and why not get the best….you deserve it.

Beverly Hills Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery “Tip of the Day” from Dr. Francis R Palmer, III Beverly Hills Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon.

I’m seeing many out of town and out of country patients coming here to Beverly Hills for our “Celebrity Lift” about 50% are opting to have the minimally invasive, reduced incision mini Face Lift and Neck Lift procedure without any anesthesia.  That’s right, I said without any anesthesia.  Just numb like at the dentist.  Why have be groggy from anesthesia if it’s not required?  People are also interested in the rapid healing and lack of downtime with the Celebrity Lift….many return to their routine in mere days.  What could be easier?  Look 10 years younger in 90 minutes or less.  http://www.drfpalmer.com/PalmerCelebrityLift.html
