Lady Dies in California from Bogus Botox!
just before lunchtime of March 17th, 2006This is a further update on my post a couple of days ago regarding counterfiet Botox and other Plastic & Cosmetic Materials like Restylane. A lady in Monterey died from fake Botox that was injected by her hair stylist! I warned you that it was “Buyer Beware” out there in the beauty business, but when hair stylists start to inject things into people’s bodies….were are all in big trouble. The Botox was not…repeat not…real Botox from Botox Cosmetic and Allergan. It was from who knows where with who knows what in it that the hair stylist was able to illegally purchase.
This is disturbing to me on many levels. First, why would a hair stylist think that he/she could inject anybody with anything whatsoever. That in itself is totally outrageous. Second, what the heck was the customer thinking? Why would the woman think that her stylist was capable of injecting Botox into her face? What’s up with that? Please! Please!
DO NOT USE A CHEAP PRICE AS THE DECIDING FACTOR OF WHAT TO GET AND WHO GIVES YOU A BEAUTY/MEDICAL TREAMENT OR SURGERY…IF YOU DO, YOU ARE SETTING YOURSELF UP TO GET BURNED! This poor woman died to save a few $$. To me that’s just plain ridiculous. If you can’t afford the right thing from a competent person………..do without!
Botox, real Botox, from Allergan and Botox Cosmetic remains a very safe and effective way to decrease the unwanted lines and wrinkles of the face. But this underscores the current climate in the beauty biz, as I have said many times before. Know what you are getting, be sure you are paying the going rate and make certain that you see a skilled and experienced doctor or Plastic & Cosmetic Surgeon. Whether you’re interested in a Face Lift, Brow Lift, Breast Augmentation, Cheek Implants, Chin Implant, Rhinoplasty, Blepharoplasty (eye lift), Tummy Tuck, Lip Augmentation, Botox, Radiesse, Restylane, Juvederm, perlane or IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) skin treatments, please go to experienced, well trained plastic and cosmetic surgeons. Celebrity, or not, you deserve the best plastic and cosmetic surgeon you can find. Please people….I’d love to never read another one of these tragic stories ever again!

Well, I did just that. I researched and researched Botox and for the first time experience of it all, I went to a Professional Dermotologist. I had my first Botox injections on my forehead on 8/4/06 and it wasn’t the best experience for me. I specifically told the Dr. that I did not want to be completely frozen. I wanted to be able to lift my eyebrows just alittle (basically I wanted just a tiny bit of expression). I’m 34 and I barely had any lines on my forehead. I have good genetics, I suppose. Well, she injected 16 units and I think that she injected more on my right forehead than on my left. Now, I’m completely frozen on one side of my forehead and not the other.
I’m alittle nervous……. She was a reputable Doctor in Dallas and now I have to wonder if she really knew what she was doing. Will this go away? I really like the affect of the wrinkles going away but I don’t like to be completely frozen. I’m afraid that this may have scared me away from Botox…….
Please Help?!

Hey Melissa,
I think you should go back and speak with the doctor that did the Botox treatment but I think it’ll be fine so please don’t worry. The good news is that Botox Injections are temporary and typically last only 3-4 months. 16 units for the entire forehead doesn’t sound like a large dose, so you should be back to normal within a few months. You can speed things along by trying to actively contract the muscles in your forehead. This makes the Botox wear off more rapidly.
Now, to answer your question on what went wrong. I’m afraid, I don’t know. The only person that does is the doctor that injected the Botox in your forehead. Sometimes the Botox is a bit strong, sometimes it’s a bit weak the first time a patient has it injected and the doctor will use more, or less, in subsequent treatments. I like using a more diluted mix of Botox that I have found is more gentle and forgiving and doesn’t create that “frozen look” that I detest. I say, give Botox another try. It really is quite remarkable, but like many things there is an art to Botox Injections.
