CHIN IMPLANT

Long revered as a sign of masculinity and strength...
The chin literally balances the nose and mouth...

Your chin is most noticeable in profile. It contributes to the beauty and strength of the lower face by counterbalancing the lips and nose. The ideal shape of the chin differs between men and women. This can be measured and determined if an imaginary vertical line is drawn down from the lower lip. With the face viewed in profile the ideal male chin will approach this vertical line. This is seen as a strong chin. One that crosses over the line will be regarded as bottom heavy and detract from the facial beauty of the nose and mouth. Similarly if the chin is too weak, as determined by a large space between the chin and the vertical line-the face will appear top heavy making the nose and mouth appear too large. Women’s chins should ideally fall just short of the vertical line. This balances the nose and mouth without elongating the upper face.

Chin augmentation is considered when there is an obvious gap between the vertical line and the chin. Once Dr Palmer determines the ideal size and shape of the implant, the procedure is performed through a small incision under the chin. As with cheek implants, the tissue is lifted away from the bone and the implant is properly positioned. External taping is applied and the procedure typically takes about 30 minutes. It is frequently combined with Nasal Refinement or other cosmetic procedures. There is usually only minimal swelling and bruising.
