Indications

Beautiful eyebrows are one of the most feminine facial features that a woman may possess. Unfortunately they change, becoming less so with age. The eyebrows begin to sag, with the outer portion affected to a greater degree. This changes the shape of the eyes from almond to round and imparts an aged, relative masculine quality to the eyes. Brow lifts raise lowered eyebrows, making them more symmetric or aesthetic in their placement on the forehead. This restores a more rested, natural and youthful appearance to the eyes and face.

But, what does the perfect eyebrow look like? Well, that depends on whether you’re a man or a woman. Men and women have very different eyebrow shapes. While men’s brows are thick, flat and linear, women’s are more complex in shape. Full and club-shaped near the nose, the eyebrows thin, arch and taper as they approach the side of the face. Women’s eyebrows peak (arch) at a point marked by an imaginary vertical line drawn through the outer colored portion of the eyeball (iris). The brow should be positioned 2 small finger widths above the eye socket.

Unfortunately as we age, our forehead tissues begin to sag downward, particularly above the eye regions. Although some young people have low eyebrows, they typically begin to show the ravages of aging during the fourth and fifth decades. The eyebrows can become dramatically lower than they were during our youth. Deepening lines and wrinkles begin to occur across the forehead, making us look tired, aged and concerned.

A browlift restores the proper aesthetic position and shape of the eyebrows thereby allowing the eyes and face to regain a natural youthful vigor. Men are rarely candidates for browlifts but for women, the procedure can feminize the face by gently elevating the brows and softening the eyes.

Procedure

There are several methods of performing effective browlifts. Dr. Palmer will thoroughly evaluate your eyebrows and eyes and recommend the best treatment plan to meet your specific needs, whether this is an endoscopic (telescopic) or standard coronal browlift. The procedure is typically carried out as an outpatient at the Beverly Hills International Center for Aesthetic Surgery and takes about 1 hour. A brow lift may frequently be performed in tandem with an eyelift, facelift or another procedure .

Recovery

There is very little bruising or swelling and the patient generally returns to normal activities in little more than 1 week, although strenuous activity should be avoided for 1 month.
