"Indications

The eyes have been called the "windows to the soul" for their ability to portray a wide range of feelings and emotions. Unfortunately, they are the first to show the effects of aging-generally as early as the third decade. The outer areas of the upper eyelids sag causing the overall shape of the eyes to change from almond to round. Fatty deposits, appearing as bulges, fine lines, wrinkles and excess skin begin to accumulate creating an overall "tired" look to the entire face.

Occasionally, "droopy upper eyelids" are actually caused by low eyebrows. This can be accurately determined by close inspection during your consultation with Dr. Palmer. The eyebrows and upper eyelids should always be evaluated in concert. This prevents low eyebrows from being misconstrued as excess upper eyelid skin-very different problems that require completely different procedures. Dr. Palmer will discuss which ones are best for you... As in all areas of plastic surgery, sound aesthetic judgement and artistic vision are needed to properly rejuvenate the eyes.

Procedure

Eyelifts remove excess tissues of the eyelids. For the upper eyes, an incision is placed precisely within the eyelid crease. Excess skin, muscle and fat are removed thereby restoring a more natural-youthful appearance. Recent advances allow the removal of excess fat from within the lower eyelids. Dr. Palmer has almost a decade of experience with this revolutionary "transconjunctival" technique and has written about its many benefits including the avoidance of lower eyelid drooping.

Because the fat around the eyes is resistant to changes in weight a Blepharoplasty, when properly performed, will last a long time making the eyes appear natural, youthful and refreshed. Schedule your appointment today to see what Dr. Palmer can do for you...

Recovery

The procedure is performed as an outpatient at The Beverly Hills International Center for Aesthetic Surgery and takes about 1 hour. Bruising and swelling are quite minimal and routine activity may be resumed as early as 4 days after the procedure, although strenuous activity should be avoided for about 2 weeks.
